Linux‑AWS kernel Bluetooth and file‑share flaws allow remote code execution
published 1 year ago
Summary
The Linux kernel used in Amazon's Linux‑AWS image has a Bluetooth driver that does not properly check who can connect, letting a nearby attacker attach a rogue device and potentially run any code they want. The same kernel also mishandles certain network file‑share requests, which could expose confidential data. Apply the latest Linux‑AWS updates as soon as possible to get these fixes and protect your systems.
What to do
- Update canonical linux-aws to version 5.15.0-1086.93.

linux-aws vulnerabilities
Michael Randrianantenaina discovered that the Bluetooth driver in the Linux
Kernel contained an improper access control vulnerability. A nearby
attacker could use this to connect a rougue device and possibly execute
arbitrary code. (CVE-2024-8805)
It was discovered that the CIFS network file system implementation in the
Linux kernel did not properly verify the target namespace when handling
upcalls. An attacker could use this to expose sensitive information.
(CVE-2025-2312)
Several security issues were discovered in the Linux kernel.
An attacker could possibly use these to compromise the system.
