CVE-2026-48864: libsolv could execute malicious code via crafted .solv files

CVE-2026-48864 · published 5 months ago
Summary

The libsolv library used in several Red Hat Enterprise Linux versions and Debian can be tricked into running unsafe code when it decompresses a specially crafted .solv file. This could let an attacker view or change data, or cause the program to crash. Apply the latest security updates from your Linux distribution as soon as possible.

What to do

The CVE record does not list a fixed version. Check the vendor's site or the advisory links below - a fix may already be released.

Original advisory text
Libsolv: heap buffer overflow in libsolv repopagestore via unchecked decompression of malicious .solv page data
A flaw was found in libsolv. This heap buffer overflow occurs during the decompression of attacker-controlled compressed data within `.solv` files due to insufficient input validation. An attacker can provide a specially crafted `.solv` file, which, when processed by a vulnerable application, can lead to out-of-bounds memory access. This could result in information disclosure, alteration of program execution, or a denial of service.
