CVE-2026-14210: GitLab allows token holder to delete group labels

CVE-2026-14210 · published 23 days ago
Summary

GitLab versions released before the latest fixes let a user with a project‑scoped personal access token—a special login key for automated tasks—change or permanently delete labels that belong to a group. The system failed to check that the user actually owned the label, so group-wide labeling could be altered by an attacker with the right token. Update GitLab to the newest release and review token permissions to limit this capability.

What to do
  • Update gitlab to version 19.4.2.

Original advisory text
Insufficient Granularity of Access Control in GitLab
GitLab has remediated an issue in GitLab CE/EE affecting all versions from 18.11 before 19.2.8, 19.3 before 19.3.5, and 19.4 before 19.4.2 that, under certain conditions, could have allowed an authenticated user with a project-scoped fine-grained Personal Access Token to permanently delete or modify group-level labels, due to incorrect authorization logic on label ownership scope validation.
