CVE-2026-113352: uTox can overwrite files when auto‑accept is on

CVE-2026-113352 · published 2 days ago
Summary

If you use uTox version 0.18.1 or earlier and have the auto‑accept file transfer feature turned on, a contact can send specially crafted file names that cause the program to write files anywhere on your computer. This could replace important startup scripts or drop malicious code. Disable auto‑accept for file transfers or upgrade to a newer version of uTox that fixes the issue.

Original advisory text
uTox through 0.18.1 Path Traversal via Auto-Accepted File Transfers
uTox through 0.18.1 contains a path traversal vulnerability that allows Tox friends to write arbitrary files by sending absolute or ../ file names to victims with auto-accept enabled. Attackers can overwrite shell startup files or plant crafted .ftinfo resume records that ft_find_resumeable() loads, abusing FILE pointers to write /proc/self/mem and execute code.
