CVE-2025-52496: rootio-mbedtls may leak encryption keys under certain load

CVE-2025-52496 · published 1 year ago
Summary

The rootio-mbedtls library used in Debian can mistakenly expose an AES encryption key when multiple threads run together and the code is compiled with specific optimizations. This could allow an attacker to steal the key or forge encrypted messages. Update to the latest version of rootio-mbedtls that includes the fix.

What to do
  • Update debian rootio-mbedtls to version 2.28.3-1.root.io.13.
  • Update arm mbed_tls to version 3.6.4 or later.

Original advisory text
CVE-2025-52496 in rootio-mbedtls - Patched by Root
