CVE-2024-11263: Zephyr permits unintended memory access when GP option enabled
CVE-2024-11263 · published 1 year ago
Summary
The Zephyr operating system’s configuration that enables Global Pointer relative addressing can let code read or write memory outside its intended area. This could let a malicious program manipulate data it shouldn’t. Disable the CONFIG_RISCV_GP setting or apply the latest Zephyr update that corrects the handling.
What to do
The CVE record does not list a fixed version. Check the vendor's site or the advisory links below - a fix may already be released.

Original advisory text
arch: riscv: userspace: potential security risk when CONFIG_RISCV_GP=y
When the Global Pointer (GP) relative addressing is enabled (CONFIG_RISCV_GP=y), the gp reg points at 0x800 bytes past the start of the .sdata section which is then used by the linker to relax accesses to global symbols.
