CVE-2017-18477: cPanel may run email tasks as unprivileged user

CVE-2017-18477 · published 7 years ago
Summary

In versions of cPanel prior to 62.0.4, the email handling component (Exim) can be made to run under the generic "nobody" account instead of a dedicated system account. This can let attackers influence how email is processed and potentially access other parts of the server. Update cPanel to version 62.0.4 or later, or apply the vendor's security patch, to ensure email services run with proper isolation.
