CVE-2015-4216: Cisco virtual security appliances allow remote login with shared key

CVE-2015-4216 · published 11 years ago
Summary

The Web Security, Email Security, and Security Management virtual appliances from Cisco use the same default SSH key for remote support on installations made before June 2015. This shared key lets an attacker who obtains it for one customer log into another customer's device without proper authentication. Update the appliances to the latest version or replace the default key to secure remote access.

The remote-support feature on Cisco Web Security Virtual Appliance (WSAv), Email Security Virtual Appliance (ESAv), and Security Management Virtual Appliance (SMAv) devices before 2015-06-25 uses the same default SSH root authorized key across different customers' installations, which makes it easier for remote attackers to bypass authentication by leveraging knowledge of a private key from another installation, aka Bug IDs CSCuu95988, CSCuu95994, and CSCuu96630.
