CVE-2013-1726: Firefox, Thunderbird, SeaMonkey updater may let local users gain rights
CVE-2013-1726 · published 13 years ago
Summary
Older versions of Firefox, Thunderbird (including ESR) and SeaMonkey do not lock the update file while checking its signature, so a local user could replace the file with a malicious one after the check but before it is used. This could let that user run code with the program's privileges. Upgrade to the latest releases or apply the vendor's security patch to fix the issue.
What to do
The CVE record does not list a fixed version. Check the vendor's site or the advisory links below - a fix may already be released.

Mozilla Updater in Mozilla Firefox before 24.0, Firefox ESR 17.x before 17.0.9, Thunderbird before 24.0, Thunderbird ESR 17.x before 17.0.9, and SeaMonkey before 2.21 does not ensure exclusive access to a MAR file, which allows local users to gain privileges by creating a Trojan horse file after MAR signature verification but before MAR use.
