CVE-2012-2676: Hoard before 3.9 may allocate too little memory

CVE-2012-2676 · published 14 years ago
Summary

The Hoard memory manager versions earlier than 3.9 can miscalculate how much memory to give to a program, allocating less than requested. This mistake can let attackers cause data to overflow into adjacent memory, potentially compromising the system. Update Hoard to version 3.9 or later to fix the issue.

Multiple integer overflows in the (1) malloc and (2) calloc functions in Hoard before 3.9 make it easier for context-dependent attackers to perform memory-related attacks such as buffer overflows on implementing code via a large size value, which causes less memory to be allocated than expected.
