CVE-2008-0946: Ipswitch Instant Messaging lets logged‑in users place files anywhere
CVE-2008-0946 · published 18 years ago
Summary
The IM Server component of Ipswitch Instant Messaging (versions up to 2.0.8.1) lets a user who is already signed in create empty files in arbitrary locations on the server by using a special ".." sequence. This could be used to fill up storage, interfere with normal operation, or set the stage for further attacks. Apply the vendor’s update or limit access to trusted users and monitor the server for unexpected files.
