CVE-2005-0464: SGI IRIX gr_osview lets local users read any file

CVE-2005-0464 · published 21 years ago
Summary

The gr_osview utility in SGI IRIX version 6.5.22 (and possibly other 6.5 releases) runs with full system privileges even when it is started in debug mode. Because it does not lower its privileges, a regular user can ask the program to open arbitrary files and have a line from those files displayed, exposing private data. Apply the vendor’s patch or upgrade to a newer IRIX release that corrects the privilege handling.
