CVE-2004-2012: Systrace on NetBSD/FreeBSD can give users root access

CVE-2004-2012 · published 21 years ago
Summary

The systrace tool in NetBSD (current and 2.0 before April 16 2004) and certain FreeBSD ports does not check who is connecting to its control socket before changing the effective user ID to 0. This omission lets a local user who can reach the socket elevate their privileges to the system administrator level. Apply the provided patches or upgrade to a version where the check is added to stop the privilege escalation.
