CVE-2002-2367: socks5 allows remote crash or code execution via long hostname

CVE-2002-2367 · published 23 years ago
Summary

The socks5 version 1.0 r11 and earlier can be tricked into overflowing its memory when a very long host name is sent. This can make the service stop working or, in some cases, let an attacker run their own code on the server. Update to a newer version of socks5 or apply the vendor's patch, and ensure host name lengths are validated.
