CVE-2002-2148: Lucent routers and DSLTerminator may reveal network details

CVE-2002-2148 · published 23 years ago
Summary

Older Lucent Ascend MAX, Ascend Pipeline routers and DSLTerminator devices can be tricked into sending back their host name, MAC address and IP address when they receive a special UDP packet. This exposure can help an attacker map your internal network. Update the firmware to a version that fixes the issue or replace the equipment with a secured model.

Lucent Ascend MAX Router 5.0 and earlier, Lucent Ascend Pipeline Router 6.0.2 and earlier and Lucent DSLTerminator allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information such as hostname, MAC, and IP address of the Ethernet interface via a discard (UDP port 9) packet, which causes the device to leak the information in the response.
